Oxford Valley & the Origin of the Eight-Square Schoolhouse

This article focuses on the earliest example of a rare building type: the octagon or “eight-square” schoolhouse, popular in the Delaware valley after its introduction in 1773, but unknown nearly everywhere else.  The article takes advantage of a “subscription paper” that provides an extraordinary amount of documentation about the building’s construction.
